What it costs, and where the money goes

A full treatment means the whole episode: the consultation, the tests, the medication, all of it. Not a contribution towards it.
Uganda
Costs run considerably higher in Uganda, typically about £16.60 per treatment. Local pricing and the exchange rate are both different. We publish this rather than quoting a single blended figure, because a blended figure would flatter us.
So what does £5 a month do
In Nigeria, five pounds covers somebody's entire treatment, and frequently leaves change. That is one person, start to finish, for less than most people in the UK spend on lunch.
How the currency works, precisely
This is the part most charities do not explain, so here it is in full.
- Bills are issued by the clinic in local currency.
- We update our exchange rate daily.
- At the moment your donation is matched to a patient, the rate is frozen.
- The figure you are shown is therefore the figure that was true at the moment of matching, not a figure that drifts afterwards.
This matters because currency movement is the easiest place for impact reporting to quietly become fiction. Freezing the rate at the point of matching means the number on your screen is auditable against the actual bill.
What your donation is used for
Donations support three things.
- Treatment costs. Settling the actual medical bills at partner facilities.
- Running the charity. The team on the ground who staff the stands and process cases, and the people in London who check every record before it reaches a donor. The checking step is a real cost and we would rather fund it than remove it.
- The technology and expansion. Maintaining the three platforms the model runs on, and opening new regions.

How payments are handled
Card payments run through Stripe, which processes payments for a very large share of the internet. DOGO never sees or stores your card number. Full detail on the transparency page.

Set up a £5 monthly donation and we will show you exactly who it treated. In Nigeria, £5 covers one person's entire treatment, usually with change.
